Special Issue: Student and Community Abstracts

This special issue will feature abstracts from students and/or community members who are interested in disseminating new knowledge and practices for Asian and Pacific Islanders.

Please submit your abstracts in the format of formal papers. The format should contain these or other approved headings of: Introduction, Problem/Significance of Topic, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Recommendations all relative to Asian/Pacific Islanders and nursing and health. Papers should be one to two pages in length and will be peer reviewed. For this special issue, we are particularly interested in the following but not limited to topics that are:

 Culturally specific
 Focuses on equity and diversity
 Pilot studies
 Evidence based practice projects
 Description of community programs
 Suggestions for policy changes to improve health/education for Asian and Pacific Islanders
 Other related topics

Original and empirical pilot studies using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods are welcome. Asian/Pacific Island Nursing Journal is the only journal focused specifically on health and health care of and for this group. This journal publishes peer-reviewed articles that include, but are not limited to:
 Methods, interventions, instrumentation, and educational techniques that are unique to this group.
 Theoretical foundations that increase understanding of the unique response to changes in health and illness.
 Bio psychosocial, spiritual, and ecological impacts on practice, education, and research.
 Policy issues as a result of rigorous research outcomes.

Author Guidelines
All submitted papers must be written in English and contain only original work, which has not been published by or is currently under review at another journal (electronic or print). Asian/Pacific Island Nursing Journal rules governing the formatting of the final submission can be found at:

The authors must select as “Special Issue” when they reach the “Article Type” step in the submission process.

All papers will be peer-reviewed by two independent reviewers. Requests for additional information should be addressed to the guest editors.

Article Processing Charge
There is no charge for submitting a paper to Asian/Pacific Island Nursing Journal.

Upon acceptance of your manuscript, you will be charged a one-time Article Processing Charge of $100 for first author members; first author student members $80; and nonmember rates would be $150

Dear AAPINA Colleagues,

This is an unfortunate time for all of us with an unexpected COVID19 virus outbreak.

We hope all of you and your loved ones stay safe during this difficult time. With this pandemic, a lot of issues and concerns, especially around racial/ethnic minorities including Asian American Pacific Islanders, are going on, which are subsequently influencing our daily lives. As you might have heard, racial/ethnic minority communities have been hit hard by this pandemic. We may need to be stronger, more patient, and more supportive of each other during this difficult time. We thought we’d better let you know that AAPINA is here to support you in anyways that AAPINA could help.

We really appreciate your devotion.
We want to send our heartfelt thanks to all of you who are on the front-line of this battle with the pandemic. Also, we want to send our deep empathy and concern to those of you who are directly affected by the pandemic.

We’re here to assist.
We know all of us are hit hard although the impact might be different depending on individual situations. As the AAPINA serves as the unified voice for Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) nurses around the world, we are here to assist you. AAPINA will continue discussing about how we could serve as the unified voice for our members.

We are working on it.
As you know, we have cancelled our 2020 conference due to this COVID19 pandemic, but we are diligently working on the next conference. As this crisis is resolved, we will move back to our plan for the next year’s conference. Please stay tuned.

During this tough time, we should stay stronger and closer (despite social distancing).

2020 NCEMNA Public Policy and Equity Summit Cancelled

The National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations (NCEMNA) Board of Directors in an emergency meeting have decided to cancel the 2020 Public Policy and Equity Summit scheduled for March 23-24, 2020 in response to COVID-19, and the widespread health risks to the public. The health and safety of our speakers, attendees, sponsors, exhibitors and community comes first.  We know during this critical time of uncertainty the need for nurses to care for their patients and families are of utmost importance.  I want to thank you for your continued support of NCEMNA and hope to see you at future events.

Registered attendees will receive additional information regarding cancellation in a separate email.

2020 Annual AAPINA Conference Cancelled

Due to rapidly escalating health concerns relating to the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), we are canceling the 2020 Annual AAPINA Conference. We will resume this conference in the early spring of 2021. We will announce more details in a few months.
