NICHQ: Addressing Anti-Asian American Discrimination
We stand in solidarity with the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and mourn the eight lives lost in the recent attacks on local Georgia businesses, six of which were Asian American women. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, incidences of anti-Asian hate crimes and discrimination have been on the rise. NICHQ condemns these acts of hatred and oppression. We also recognize the role our nation’s history of violence against the AAPI community, as well as the recent rhetoric, have played in harming the community. While NICHQ as an organization is committed to addressing systemic inequities, we implore you to reflect on how you can speak out against racism and discrimination personally and professionally.
We hope the two resources below will empower and embolden you to support the AAPI community. We encourage you to utilize and share these resources with friends and colleagues.
Coronavirus/COVID-19 Resources to Stand Against Racism [Asian Americans Advancing Justice]: Resources to document and address hate, bystander intervention virtual trainings, resources for the Asian American community on anti-Blackness, and many more.
Here’s How You Can Help if You See Asian Americans Targeted by Racist Harassment [Cosmopolitan]: Instruction on how to safely intervene when witnessing harassment.
We have a long road ahead of us when it comes to ending systemic racism and bias. NICHQ is committed to “walking the talk.” Join us in taking this step together.
